Libraries

Every public library on the East End is part of the Suffolk Cooperative Library System(SCLS) — one card works at any of them and items can be delivered between branches.

Year-round residents and homeowners get a free card with a photo ID plus proof of address (utility bill, tax bill, or signed lease). Summer renters can usually get a card too: bring your lease and ID to the circulation desk and most libraries will issue a temporary card the same day.

Most Suffolk libraries are now fee-free— no overdue fines — and every one offers free Libby (ebooks + audiobooks), Hoopla, and digital NYT / WSJ access. If you’re visiting and thinking “I’m just here for the summer, I can’t use the library” — you can. Most visitors just don’t realize it.
