Worth understanding if you care about the Hamptons' old money — only if the social history is what brought you here.

Grey Gardens

The 1897 shingle-style house on West End Road, designed by Joseph Greenleaf Thorp and named for the grey stone walls of its garden rooms. Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter Little Edie lived here through the decline the Maysles brothers filmed in 1975; Ben Bradlee and Sally Quinn bought it in 1979 for $220,000 and restored it. The designer Liz Lange rented in 2015, bought from Quinn in 2017, and undertook a three-year restoration.
